Make Sure That You Don't Include This Information in the Contact Section of Your Resume

One of the most overlooked and critical areas of the resume is the contact area. Most people just put in their information and complete the balance of the page without too much afterthought. Did you know that many of these documents aren't even read due to inadequacies in this particular section? Human resources personnel point to one major error that is seen on numerous resumes that gets them rejected immediately.

Do you know what the problem is with countless submission by applicants? Logic would certainly lead you to belief that it is an error of omission. While that is true in many cases, and this alone would cause you not only to lose credibility in the event that your document is actually read all the way through, but also not receive a phone call for an interview. However, this is not the dreaded resume mistake that you probably are not even aware of existed up to this point.

Probably the most popular form of communication on a personal level or business to business today is email. It is fast, convenient and doesn't require the other party to actually be there when sent. Similar to regular post office mail, but typically with a much faster response. Another great feature is the availability of providers and ability to choose a moniker that fits your personality. And that is where the trouble begins. You see, personal and business email should never cross paths. One is strictly professional with rules and regulations that follow strict guidelines while the other has some leniency.

Therefore, never, ever use a personal email address when posting your contact information on the resume. Since these are so easy to obtain, get a new professional sounding one strictly for business usage. Suggestions would be your first and middle initials plus last name @ domain.com. In this way you are assured of being ahead of at least 10% of the applicants in the job market. Do it today.
